Radiation Oncology

All of us at the center believe in creating the type of positive, caring space that is so essential to the well being of our patients. That’s why our professional staff is so committed to addressing the individual needs of everyone we treat.

Each member of our radiation oncology team brings with them a wealth of specialized skills, experience and expertise. We work hard; not only to provide an unmatched level of care, but also to make sure our referring physicians are well informed and intimately involved in their patient’s progress.

Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT)

IMRT is specifically designed for more accurate delivery of radiation directly to the tumor area and less radiation to normal tissues and organs, resulting in greater destruction of the cancer with fewer side effects or damage to a patient’s surrounding healthy tissue.

High Dose Rate (HDR) Brachytherapy

Brachytherapy is used for many types of cancer, including gynecologic malignancy, prostate, lung and breast cancers. High Dose Rate, or HDR brachytherapy, allows for the delivery of internal radiation sources directly to the cancer area with minimum risk to healthy tissue. High intensity radiation is delivered directly to the site of the tumors through plastic catheters. The radiation dose can then be controlled within different regions of the affected area. This reduces unnecessary exposure and causes less discomfort and fewer complications than standard therapies. In fact, most treatments can be performed as outpatient procedures.

Prostate Seed Implants

This procedure implants permanent, radioactive particles or “seeds” into the prostate gland. They provide a continual, low dose of radiation to the cancerous region over the course of several months. High radiation doses are given to the prostate and minimal doses to the surrounding normal tissues.

3D Computer Imaging

Our advanced 3D computer imaging system helps us with the planning process of cancer treatment therapy. This technology uses powerful computer simulation software and procedures to precisely locate and map the cancer. This allows us to determine the most effective way of treating the cancer with radiation.
